Rob Brydon hails Swansea Arena as ‘huge cultural boost’ for city

Universally-adored funnyman Rob Brydon has praised the new Swansea Arena as a “huge cultural boost for the city” in an interview with The Daily Telegraph.

The former Swansea schoolboy — who on 30th April will bring A night of Songs and Laughter to the iconic new venue —  also spoke of his frequent holidays in the city as a youngster, adding that Swansea still holds “a special place in my heart”. 

Rob said: “Enveloped by the coast, its near beautiful beaches such as Langland and charming little towns such as Mumbles – and then beyond, there’s Gower and Three Cliffs Bay. 

“I went to school there and my memories have become conflated with Dylan Thomas’s writing about it, especially Cwmdonkin Park. I remember the mania when the Bay City Rollers came to town. 

“I’ve already played Brangwyn Hall on my current tour with my band, but when we return to April 2022, we’ll be playing at the brand-new Swansea Arena, which will be a huge cultural boost for the city.”

A Night of Songs and Laughter at Swansea Arena will see Rob recount his personal musical journey from South Wales to Hollywood and back.

The arena forms part of the £135m Copr Bay phase one project being developed by Swansea Council, with RivingtonHark as development manager. Buckingham Group Contracting Ltd is leading on its construction.
